Shimla Ridge
Shimla Ridge, the popular town square is located just a 5 minute walk from Kalawati Homes Vacation Rentals. A 400m flat walk down the souvenir shopping street of lakkar bazaar lands you on the Ridge.
The Ridge is famous for being witness to many major historical events in the History of the Nation and State. The Ridge of Shimla runs from East to West and has open panoramic 360 degree views of the Ranges and Sunset. It is the location of famous historical buildings like the Christ Church of Shimla, State Library, Town Hall, Gaiety Theatre, Ashiyana Restaurant and Various Parks with distinct flora. Various popular fast foods, cafes and pubs are located on the Ridge.
Walks in Shimla
Shimla is famous as a Walking City, and Kalawati Homes Shimla is located right at the beginning of the central downtown pedestrian zone. Apart from the downtown busy streets the area also has quaint scenic walks that are lined with oak and cedar trees, and also with various secluded colonial bunglows.
Due to the prime locations of Kalawati Homes Vacation Rentals’ properties, we are close to both the downtown, and to the nature. Many of the scenic walks like Forest Walk, Jakhoo Hike, Snowdon Sanjauli Walk and Heritage Walk can be started right from our doorstep. The walks are blissful as you can hear birds chirping. Sometimes you see the sunlight shining through the trees, or otherwise you may witness the eerie foggy gloomy weather, or sometimes both. The peculiar Shimla weather changes in a glimpse, so always do remember to carry an umbrella in hand on all these walks.
Mall Road
The Mall Road of Shimla is a pleasant and popular hangout space and the main shopping street of Shimla. Any time of the day you can go down 5 minutes from Kalawati Homes and like all Shimla locals love to do, take a stroll on the mall road. Lined with fancy shops and cobbled stones, on Mall Road you always see a gentrified crowd dressed in their best of attires.
Mall Road is around 4 km long and has pleasant walking weather throughout the year. It has most of the popular and old eatries and hangout places in town. It also has a number of Historical buildings and popular landmarks. All of the properties by Kalawati Homes Vacation Rentals are located in and around Mall Road. Mall Road is easily accessible on foot and by wheelchair from Kalawati Homes. The walk to Mall Road is elder friendly.
Jakhoo Ropeway
Jakhoo Ropeway takes you to the top of Shimla watershed to the famous Hanuman, Jakhoo Temple. Jakhoo Ropeway is very close and conveniently walkable from Kalawati Homes Properties. Kalawati Homes is located right at the base of Jakhoo Hill, below Jakhoo Temple.
Jakhoo Ropeway offers spectacular Birds eye views of the Shimla Hills. It is a must visit for photography enthusiasts. The Jakhoo hill is a very spiritual place surrounded with calming deodar forests. It is also the home to the notorious Shimla monkeys. Who are known to be very cunning and steal food and belongings from people. People are adviced to keep glasses wallets and belongings securely in a bag on the visit to Jakhoo Hill. Jakhoo Hill gets ample snow in winters and is a must visit for snow enthusiasts.
Colonial Heritage
As the name suggests, there is a small and beautiful lake near the 17th century palace build by Maharaja Akhai Singh to honor his predecessor Maharaja Amar Singh. The calm magical chimes of the water on the relaxing stairs of the lake brings the feeling of peace & solitude.
There is a Jain Temple dedicated to Lord Parshwanath, called Adeshwar Nath Jain temple, which is Located adjacent to the famous Amar Sagar Lake. It was built by Patwa Bafna Himmat Ram in 1928 and boasts of beautiful stone carvings. The best time to visit lake is again either early morning or during sunset.
Cafes & Nightlife
In the Era of kings and ministers about 200 years ago ‘Kuldhara’ was home to the Paliwal Brahmins. The legend goes that one of the king’s nobels, Salim Singh looked at a Brahmin girl with bad intentions. So in order to save the honour of the girl, 84 villages were abandoned overnight.
Kuldhara is one of those villlages and one would certainly notice the uncanny silence prevailing around. You may spend time exploring the ruins from an archaeological aspect. The place is worth visiting specially for those who love thrill & fiction. The town is about 20 Kms away from Shimla and the best time to visit it is during the daytime.
